Although safety is reinforced every lesson, the horses used at the school are all taught to allow people to approach them without becoming excited.
Sometimes the schools horses need some extra veterinary work kindly supplied by VSL & Farriers. Above right "Feather" is getting an X-Ray of her Fetlock.

The kids are taught all about different gear and how to maintain it.

In NZ we have an area where wild horses still roam the grasslands like the brumbies in Australia. The Kaimanawa wild horses. This is a culled Kaimanawa horse Josh is breaking to the saddle.
Tonto a little dwarf pony from the circus was a bit too eager to eat all the good dairy grass in our area and had a very bad case of colic. Dr Knight spent much of the night with Tonto administering IV fluids and various medications until the little guy recovered. He also had a very nice foot trim as well!
WAIHI RIDING SCHOOL
Josh Hannah and Abbey were riding their horses through the Kentucky fried chicken drive thru one day when Emma from united video impressed with how well trained these horses were, wondered if they would teach her daughter about horses. "I dont want to spend lots of money buying one until she is sure she really wants a horse" Emma said.
That was the start of a very busy Waihi Riding School. A place where kids can come to learn about caring for and riding horses. It also has become quite a social occassion for parents too.
The children are tested on what they have learned at the end of each session and are always eager to get this right as it can often mean a reward of extra riding or time with the horses.
